Overload/Relay
By2001 Sears Kenmore Side by Side Refrigerator made by Whirlpool(Model#10650202993):Not Cooling at all, clicking sound can be heard in the back of the refrigerator, The Compressor Relay has gone out, Part#4387535. I installed a new one, worked great.

My 4-year-old LG fridge needs a new “overload relay”. I already removed the original relay, which definitely had the classic “broken pieces sound” when you shake it. Like when a light bulb dies and the filament breaks.
I should have taken a picture of the relay while it was still connected to the wires, because now I don’t remember which wires to connect to each part. I have purchased replacement kit part (#4387535)

As you can see in the photo, the brown part has 4 metal connectors (I don’t know what else to call them), and each is numbered (1, 2, 3, 4) I remember that 2 of the colored wires go to 2 of these connectors. And the 3rd colored wire goes to the white part in the photo.
The part came in a plastic bag with no instructions. I’m sorry I don’t know the technical terms. If anyone can help with straightforward instructions, I can get my fridge running again!! Thanks!

Your LG uses a different type of relay/overload than the #4387535
Whats the model# of your refrigerator? Its located inside the refrigerator on the upper walls or ceiling.

I have a whirlpool side by side.
I purchased an overload/relay online but it did not come with instructions.
The old O/R was a white box with a red and white wire. I now have a black/white 1 pronged piece, a black 4 pronged piece (prongs numbered), a clip of some sort and a big black housing.
What do I do with this stuff? I have scoured the internet looking for instructions but to no avail. I found this info out from another website but the links pointing to “how to” did not have this info on them.

Ok, then you got this same one as in this blog article I posted.
This one doesn’t come with instructions.
Its very easy to install, just put the white overload part on first on the single compressor pin, then the brown relay on the double compressor pins.
Then put the red wire on the white overload part, and the white wire on the left side of the brown relay part.
You don’t need that big black box cover part that comes with it.

I assume I connect the white wire to the left side prong that is associated with the pin, which I think is the on on the bottom.

Yes, white wire goes on left side of relay prong. Bottom or Top either one, just as long as its on the left side.
