Sears Kenmore 596 Model Defrost Thermostat
BySears Kenmore Side by Side Refrigerator made by Amana (model#596.9550850): Not cooling well in both the refrigerator and freezer sections, and some stuff in the bottom of the refrigerator section was freezing.
The defrost thermostat(bi-metal) runs the evaporator fan motor, also called the freezer fan, and controls the defrost heater. If the evaporator is frosted up, then the first place to look would be this part. You can Ohm it for continuity while the evaporator coil is still frosted up, always unplug the refrigerator before Ohming it out.
