Last Day of September 2004

Hi all,

Started the morning with a:
2002 Frigidaire Top Freezer Refrigerator: Not cooling, Found the compressor burn out and restriction in filter drier of sealed system.
Ordered both parts.
Under the 5 yr. part and labor warranty.

2003 Frigidaire Front Load Washer: Tub not spinning in wash and spin cycle, Found Motor Controller Board out, replaced board, worked great.

2003 Whirlpool Slide-In Gas Range: Shows F1 code(oven door locked) Found bad electonic control board, ordered.

1998 Kitchen Aid Dishwasher: Motor not coming on, Found bad micro-computer board, ordered.

Monday Sept. 27th

Hi all,
The morning low clouds did burn off this afternoon, very nice fall day here in Springfield, Oregon.

1998 Frigidaire Upright Freezer: Not Cooling, Found Compressor burn out, compressor oil restricted in evaporator, heat exchanger, filter drier.
Spent 4 hours this morning changing all those parts plus installing the new drain pan kit that solders to the condenser tubing(high side) of the compressor that heats the defrost drain water to evaporation. No charge to customer, under the extended warranty contract they purchase yearly. If they didnt have the contract it would have cost close to $1000 to repair, very labor intensive job!

1992 Whirlpool Dryer: Not heating properly, Found cycling thermostat out, replaced cycling thermostat, worked great.

Sundays Events

Hi all,
The morning clouds almost burned off today in the Eugene/Springfield, Oregon area.

Started this morning with a:
2002 Maytag Front Load Washer, this is the 2nd rubber door boot i have put on this unit in 2 yrs. this is un-heard of. Something is making the rubber boot mold and mildew badly. Under extended warranty.

2002 Maytag Top Load Washer: Making strange noises, Found timer very load clicking sounds and water pump bearing squeaking bad. Ordered Parts. Under extended warranty.

1994 Maytag SxS Refrigerator: Not Cooling properly, Found frost build up on back freezer panel, needs defrost heater assembly, ordered.

Super Saturday Sept. 25th

The low clouds stayed all day, never burned off here in Eugene/Springfield, Oregon area.

2002 Sears Kenmore SxS Refrigerator(Whirlpool built): Ice maker not working, Found the black rubber fill spout on the freezer ceiling that supplies water to the ice maker was frozen, de-iced the rubber spout, worked great. No charge, Extended warranty.

2004 Maytag Front Load Washer: The customer was complaining about the door not being aligned properly with the cabinet. This is normal. It will never leak from the door. If you go to any new appliance store where they sell these new, you will see they are all like that. Under 1st yr. warranty.

1982 Sears Kenmore Top Freezer Refrigerator(Whirlpool built): Not cooling, Found the condenser fan motor not turning, 1 of the fan blades was jammed in the fan shroud. Reset the fan blade, worked great. Cost $65.00

2004 Whirlpool SxS Refrigerator: Not cooling in refrigerator section, Found ice/frost build up in air supply and return ducts. The Freezer door was not closing properly causing this. Reset the ice bucket(was keeping door from closing all the way) , cleared and defrosted all ice/frost, worked great. Under 1st yr. warranty.

Sunny Friday

Hi all,

2003 Sears Kenmore Dryer(Whirlpool built): Making metal squealing noise while running, Found idler bracket bad, replaced with a rollor style idler pulley, worked great. Under 1 yr. warranty.

2004 Sears Kenmore Washer(Whirlpool built): Water on hot side not coming in, just trickling in. Found bad water valve on washer. Ordered. Under 1 yr. warranty.

1995 Sears Kenmore Dryer(Whirlpool built): Not heating, Found heating element out, also saw customers vent hose from dryer kinked and kinda crushed, which would contribute to more wear on the heating element.
Cost to repair about $175.

2002 Sears Kenmore Dryer(Whirlpool built): Drum turning slow when started, then the dryer just shuts off, Found Motor bad. Under a extended warranty, No charge.

Thursday Sept. 23rd

Hi all,

1998 Whirlpool Range: error code EO F5 means door switch/latch malfunction, plus no response from touch pad microcomputer. Would need switch/latch and microcomputer, price to fix about $600.00, not worth it.

2003 Maytag Top Load Washer: Not spinning well, Found brake assembly and thrust bearing out.

2003 Sears Kenmore Front Load Washer(Frigidaire built): Tub not turning, Found Motor Controller Board out, that part is under the 2 year warranty for the part only.

2000 Kitchen Aid Built-In SxS Refrigerator: Water leaking when using the water dispenser, found plastic water tubing compression union leaking underneath unit, repaired it, worked great.

Busy Friday

Hi all,

1998 Kitchen Aid Dishwasher: Not turning on, Found door latch/catch not activating door switch properly, adjusted metal door catch, worked great.

2001 Kenmore Top Freezer Refrigerator(Whirlpool built): Leaking water into refrigerator from freezer in defrost cycle. Found Drain line clogged with ice blockage. Removed ice, and cleared drain, worked great.

2003 Kenmore Dishwasher(GE built): Water valve wouldnt shut off , keep filling tub: Found water valve bad, replaced water valve, worked great.

2004 Whirlpool Washer: vibrating bad in spin cycle, lubricated snubber pads and suspension with silicon lubrication spray, worked great.

2004 Roper Dryer: would not turn on, Found timer shorted. Brand new defective, customer had never used it. Customer wanted a new Dryer. She called the place she bought it from, they said that was fine to exchange it. Very rare to find a shorted timer when the customer first gets a new dryer.

1997 Gibson Upright Freezer: Not cooling properly, Found door gasket had a air leak, reformed gasket with a air heat gun, worked great.

2004 Kenmore Dishwasher(Whirlpool built): Smell oder, not cleaning dishes well, Found check valve in pump bad, replaced, worked great.

2004 Whirlpool Range: Oven wont come on, Found start button on control panel not working, replaced microcomputer, worked great.

1999 Frigidaire Upright Freezer: Not cooling well, only top shelf frosted, other shelves dry. Replaced Compressor and Drier, worked great.

Monday Sept. 13th

Hi all,

2002 Kenmore Freezer on Top Refrigerator(Frigidaire built): Leaking water on the top self of Refrigerator from freezer in defrost cycle, There is a repair kit to fix this problem, its a upgraded ferrule kit thats directs the defrost water into the proper area to drain to the drain pan underneath. Ordered.

2003 Frigidaire Dishwasher: Taking to long to complete cycle on heated wash and heated rinse options.
This is very rare to happen, i have only seen this happen about 3 times since i started appliance repair in 1987: Its not a dishwasher problem, its a installion problem. The person who installed it connected the water supply to the cold water faucet underneath the sink. So everytime the dishwasher calls for water , it only puts in COLD water the entire cycle. That means the heating element will stay on about 8 hours, if not more, to try to heat the cold water to 130 degrees. While the timer stays in one place as well, while the motor runs that long too.
Advised cutomer to change the water supply to the hot water faucet underneath sink. :)

1999 Kenmore Dryer(Whirlpool built) not turning on: Found thermal fuse out in dryer. Cleaned out lint blockage, replaced thermal fuse, worked great!

Ice Maker Module

Hi all,

2004 Kenmore SxS Refrigerator(Whirlpool built): Vibrating noise when the unit is running, Found condenser tubing from compressor rattling, adjusted tubing, worked great!

2004 Kenmore Dryer(Frigidaire built): Not drying, clothes too hot, f4 code error. Found vent exhaust hose kinked up in back of unit, causing poor air flow, cut hose to fit to size, moved dryer away from back wall abit, worked great!

1996 Kenmore SxS Refrigerator(Whirlpool built): Water overflowing when the Ice maker filled. Found bad module assembly, replaced module assembly, worked great!

2003 Kenmore Upright Freezer(Frigidaire built): When the customer called in, she said it wasnt cooling, I arrived there today, it was cooling fine, giving off alot of condenser heat. She had boxes piled on top of the freezer, causing top condenser coil not to release heat properly. I advised her about keeping items off the top of the freezer for best performance.
On most new upright and chest freezers they have done away with the big black condenser coil that used to be on the back of freezers.
Now most have them built into the side exterior walls and top exterior of the freezers.

Happy Friday

Hi all,

2000 Kenmore Washer(Whirlpool built) Not agitating, or spinning:
Found the motor coupler broken, very common part, acts just like a belt, it drives the transmission(gearcase) Its a direct-drive washer.
Replaced coupler, worked great!

1998 Frigidaire SxS Refrigerator, Not giving water out the front water dispenser, or in ice maker: Found a malfunction in the water valves, There are 2 water valves on this unit. Ordered Both.

2000 Kenmore Dryer(Frigidaire built) Bad sqeaking noise when drum turns:
Found the rear drum bearing was out, replaced bearing, worked great!

1993 Kenmore SxS Refrigerator(Whirlpool built) Not giving water out the front water dispenser: Found the water valve bad, replaced water valve, worked great!

2003 Kenmore SxS Refrigerator(Frigidaire built) Making loud whinning sound, adjusted evaporator tubing coming out of the compressor, worked great!

Check Ups

Hi all,

Today was filled with mostly preventive maintance check ups.
First 5 service calls all in 1 house:

2001 Kenmore Glasstop Range(Whirlpool built):

Right Front dual burner element not heating properly: Checked it , seems when you put a pot on it to heat, it takes longer than normal to heat up. Found a sensor short in the infinite switch and element assembly. Ordered both parts.

The other 4 appliance check ups are as follows:
2001 Kitchen Aid Top Freezer Refrigerator
2001 GE above the range Microwave
2001 Kenmore Dishwasher(Whirlpool built)
2001 Kenmore Dryer(Whirlpool built)
All checked good.

Then went to a customer with a 2002 Front Load Maytag Washer and Dryer.
Both checked good.

Last service call was a 2000 Kenmore Front Load Washer(Frigidaire built) Tub not turning in wash cycle: Found the motor was bad.
That motor price was $238.00
She said she uses it alot with the 5 kids she has. :)

I always recommend a service contract when there are more than 3 in the household. Because Appliances get more usage with more people in the home.

Thermal fuses

Hi all,

Since about 1990 on, most all the appliances have come with a thermal fuse , to prevent overheating in Dryers and Dishwashers that used to cause some house fires.
Even Ice makers have them as well, that use the heat release way to help the ejector blades to push ice out.

Hot in between the refrigerator doors

Hi all,
Maytag Wide-By-Side

This Maytag has a self-cleaning condenser coil. :)

On other brands of refrigerators:
First thing, clean the condenser coil either underneath or in back of the unit.

Could be something is stuck in the condenser fan motor, or the condenser motor has gone out.

Take off the access cover in the back, and look to see if the condenser fan blade is turning while the compressor is running.
If its not, get a flashlight and look for something stuck in the fan blade, unplug the unit first.

Then try to manually turn the fan blade, if it doesnt turn well, could be motor bearing is out.
You would need a new condenser motor.

That fan motor keeps the condenser coil cool, and part of that coil goes right in the middle of the 2 doors to prevent condensation in humid weather.(Yoder loop)

If that fan is not turning, it will get super hot in between the doors.

Good Sunday

Hi all,

2004 Kenmore Top Freezer Refrigerator model# starts with 795(LG Electronics-Former name Goldstar) built:

Freezing everything in the refrigerator section, replaced cold control(operating thermostat) assembly, includes air duct, worked great.

2002 Kenmore Dishwasher(whirlpool built) motor humming, not washing:
replaced sump/motor assembly, worked great.

2002 Kenmore Front Load Washer(Whirlpool built) shows F9 error code:
F9 is a water pump problem, either clogged pump, or pump malfunctioning, no clog found, replaced pump, worked great.

2004 Kenmore Front Load Washer(Frigidaire built) leaving lots of extra soap after rinse: advised customer to use HE(high efficiency,low suds) detergent, and to delute fabric softner.

1996 Kemore Electric Range(GE built) top burner element would not turn down to low, always on high: Replaced the burner thermostat control switch, worked great.

Have a Happy Labor Day Weekend

Hi all,

1989 Kenmore washer(Whirlpool built) leaking water:
Replaced water pump, worked great.

2001 Kenmore upright freezer(Frigidaire built)

Not cooling:
Replaced Compressor under the 5 year Warranty. Worked great.

2003 Kenmore SxS Refrigerator(Whirlpool built) Not cooling at times:
When i arrived it was cooling great, but the customer said it had stopped cooling for about 6 hours the day before.
Its had to tell why it happened, but i replaced the main control board, because i have run into this a couple times before and seem to fix the problem.

Door handle broken, replaced door handle, worked great.

1994 Kemore dryer(Whirlpool built)Coin-op dryer

Its rare we work on these, since it is in a apartment complex.
The apartment maintaince people fix most of these.
The door latch was broken, replaced door latch, worked great.

2003 Kenmore Refrigerator(Frigidaire built) Freezer on Top
Under Warranty

Ice maker jamming up, replaced ice maker, worked great.

Back to School

Its that time of year again. The Kids start another school year, the washers and dryers are working overtime to keep the clothes clean.

The Front Load Energy Star Washers and now some Top Load Energy Star Washers are very good.

Remember, You should get 2 rebates when you buy the Energy Star Appliances. One as tax deduction of about $250.
The other from your local Utility Company.
