1998 Sears Kenmore Washer(Whirlpool built)(Model#11028932790): Leaking water from front left corner, This model has a triple dispenser assembly in the front, located in the front under the top lid. Found it leaking from there, cleaned out the dispenser ports and top tub ring holes, worked great.

GE Dryer Heating Elements
Most dryer heating elements last many years , some seem to only last 3 years or less. Why is this? Its Mainly due to poor air circulation through the dryer and out the customers exhaust vent.
If you notice clothes taking over 1 hour to dry, then this may be the main problem to short heating element life.
A simple test: Pull the dryer away from the wall, disconnect the exhaust hose, let the exhaust air just blow into the room for 1 load.
If you notice the dryer drying the clothes faster, then you have solved the problem. The problem is in your vent exhaust hose, either clogged or something is restricting the air flow where the end of the exhaust hose comes out.

Frigidaire Gas Range Oven Ignitors
Most Frigidaire and Sears Kenmore made by Frigidaire Gas Ranges use glow bar style Ignitors as seen below.
If the Glow bar ignitor glows but the oven gas does not come out to lite the flame, its a good chance the Glow bar Ignitor is bad.
The Glow bar Ignitor sends a small amount of resistence to the safty valve, so the gas comes on. If the glow bar does not send enough resistence but still glows, the safty valve will not open even though the glow bar is glowing. Confused Yet. LOL :) Just kidding! Sounds complicated but really not.

2004 Sears Kenmore Top Freezer Refrigerator(Frigidaire built)Model#25363712304: Not cooling, Found Frost build up inside the freezer on the back panel, the evaporator coil was frosted up solid. I turned the defrost timer into defrost, the heater came on, that means the defrost timer was bad. I defrosted the evaporator coil, then installed a new defrost timer. (Part#215846602)

Hi all,
Started the morning with a appliance i rarely repair(Microwave) and have not talked about much in this blog. When i worked at Montgomery Ward Service Dept. for 11 years, the TV/Electronic techs. were assigned to work on Microwaves, the Refrigeration/Laundry/Cook/Clean techs. like myself were never really trained, but by watching some of the other electronics techs. i picked on a few basic repairs, mainly the touchpad/control micro-computer board and door switch parts repairs.
2000 Whirlpool (over the range) Microwave Oven (Model#MH6130XEQ1): The lights underneath were not coming on when you pressed the light switch button on the touchpad, Found micro-computer board (Part#8172054) was bad, replaced board, worked great.

This unit is being used in a business, therefore its considered being used commercially, the 1 year warranty is reduced to 90 days, because in the warranty it states , only to be used in a single family dwelling household. It is past the 90 day commercial warranty, It will be very costly to repair this unit, to replace the outer tub is a major job, about 2 hours , with 2 techs.

Whirlpool and Sears Kenmore Refrigerator Water Filters
Hi all,
Some parts of the United States have hard water,like Texas and Arizona. Some parts have soft water, like the Pacific Northwest.
In places where the water is harder, changing the refrigerator water filter should be between 3-6 months.
In places where the water is softer, changing the refrigerator water filter should be between 6-9 months.
Here is the basic water filter for the Sears Kenmore made by Whirlpool, and the Whirlpool brand Side By Side Refrigerators.
This filter mounts in the front left side of the kickplate(toeplate).
It has a handle, very easy to change, just twist and turn.

Sears Kenmore Washer Timer
Hi all,
1994 Sears Kenmore Washer Model#11082872800
(Whirlpool built): clicking sound when trying to spin, motor starts for about 5 sec. then stops then does it repeatingly.
First check to make sure nothing is stuck in the wash tub holes like a nail, bra wire, etc.
I have seen a few do that with that click sound for 5 sec. off and on.
I Replaced the timer and start capacitor, and it fixed that problem.

Montgomery Ward Dryer made by Admiral
Hi all,
My Dryer is a 1988 Montgomery Ward(Admiral built)Model#LNC7435A80: Bad noise when i turn on dryer and when dryer shuts down, The blower wheel has gone out, this is the 2nd time in 16 years,Really not to bad, not a major part, its about $15.00. part#53-0106.
The only other parts to go out in 16 years is the belt and lint filter, very inexpensive parts.
I can tell the motor bearing is starting to make more noise now as well, very expensive part. So this week while im on my 1 week vacation, I decided 16 years for a Dryer is Wonderful, Im going to just buy another new Admiral Dryer, they have not gone up in price in 16 years. They have them here in Eugene/Springfield, Oregon for $259.00

2004 Brand New Fisher and Paykel Washer
Good Evening to everyone,
After 17 years of appliance repair, i have never repaired a Fisher and Paykel Washer Model#GWL-11. Today was the first one.
My first call today was this brand, The complaint was: The start button wouldnt make the washer start, I found the touch pad start button stuck on the keypad assembly, i reset it, it started working great!

2003 Sears Kenmore Top Freezer Refrigerator(Frigidaire built): Leaking water from air vent on top behind controls, There is a upgraded ferrule to fix this problem part#240365901
2002 Frigidaire Top Freezer Refrigerator: Not cooling well, Found compressor burned out, Installed new compressor and filter drier, worked great, No Charge, Under 5 yr. part and labor warranty.
1998 Kitchen Aid Dishwasher: Water coming in, but motor not starting, Found Micro-computer board shorted out, Replaced it, worked great.
Price to repair $300.00

Sunday October 3rd
Foggy morning to start the day off, but it burned off around noon.
2000 Sears Kenmore Dryer(Whirlpool built): Not drying well, taking along time to dry, Customer had a long exhaust vent underneath the house clogged with lint, advised them to have it cleaned, when i pulled the exhaust vent off the back of the dryer, it heated fine, good temperatures averaging between 120-180 degrees. No Charge, under service contract.
1990 GE Dryer: Timer wont shut off or move at all, replaced timer, worked great. Cost to repair $187.99

1993 Sears Kenmore Washer(Whirlpool built): Not agitating or spinning, Found motor coupler broken, also transmission(gearcase) leaking oil, Cost to repair both is about $500. Customer will buy a new washer.

2002 Sears Kenmore Calypso Washer(Whirlpool built): Black steaks on clothes, Found u-joint seal broken, causing black marks on clothes, replaced u-joint with the new u-joint repair kit part#285927, worked great.
No charge, customer had a service contract.

2004 Amana Freezer on Bottom Refrigerator: Ice and frost build up around evaporator fan motor area, There is a upgraded motor kit for this problem part#12002009. Replaced evaporator fan motor, worked great. No charge, Under 1st yr. warranty.
2004 Frigidaire Duel Fuel Range: Glass jar fell on range glasstop, breaking range glasstop, Replaced range glasstop, spent 2 hours doing this job, very labor intensive, you have to remove alot of screws and the control panel, Hardest glasstop to change i have ever seen in my 17 yrs. doing appliance repair. No charge, Under 1st yr. warranty.

First Day of October 2004
Hi all,
Very fanstatic sunny day here in Sringfield, Oregon.
1991 Whirlpool Top Freezer Refrigerator: Not cooling, Found compressor out, compressor making bad noise as well. Cost to fix $600.00. Customer said he will just buy a new Refrigerator.
2004 Sears Kenmore Calypso Washer(Whirlpool built): Gray streaks on clothes after cycle ends. There is a service flash on this problem, they make a upgraded computer board to fix this problem. Part#8542693
No charge, Under 1st yr. warranty.
1982 Sears Kenmore Dryer(Whirlpool built): Not Heating, Found broken wire at timer, repaired wire, worked great.
No charge, customer had a service contract.
2000 Frigidaire Front Load Washer: Not pumping out the water properly, Found impeller in pump broken, replaced water pump, worked great. Cost $200.00
This problem was caused by something left in a pocket, that got in the pump to break it. Always check those pockets. :)
