Whirlpool and Sears Kenmore Refrigerator Water Filters
Hi all,
Some parts of the United States have hard water, like Texas and Arizona. Some parts have soft water, like the Pacific Northwest.
In places where the water is harder, changing the refrigerator water filter should be between 3-6 months.
In places where the water is softer, changing the refrigerator water filter should be between 6-9 months.
Here is the basic water filter for the Sears Kenmore made by Whirlpool, and the Whirlpool brand Side By Side Refrigerators.
This filter mounts in the front left side of the kickplate(toeplate).
It has a handle, very easy to change, just twist and turn.

Filter - Ice and Water
P/N: 4396508
Ice and water filter used in front access grilles in some Whirlpool/Kenmore brands refrigerators. Manufacturer suggests replacing filter every 6 to 9 months or sooner if in a hard water area. Replaces other filter p/ns 4392857, 4396163, WF-NL300, WF-L500 and others.
Have a good evening!

Thanks for the post! My husband and I have been wondering about our refrigerator's(GE Artica PSS26MG 2003)water filter. The "reset water filter" light hasn't come on in the last 13 months. This is kind of silly, but is it supposed to when I need to change the filter?

Hi Shelley,
I get alot of customers that ask me that too.
Yes, the light will come on when its time to change it, if you live in a area with soft water, then it may not come on as fast as someone who lived where the water was harder.
It depends on how much you use it too.
If you and your family and friends use the water dispenser lots of times during the day every day, it will come on sooner.
