Default Amana washer noisy agitation ALW432RAW

My washer is making a klunkety kind of noise when agitating. It drains and spins fine. I took the agitator off (You need to get a nut off and an extension to do it!!) and that seems fine. Can any body give me a clue on what to look for next? I havent been able to do laundry in 5 days

I had the transmission replaced about a year ago and from what I have been reading it might be this again. Of course I had a friend do it and won't have any warranty. Is this model ALW432RAW prone to tranny problems????

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

Washer is about 5-6 years old.

Hi,

I would first take the belt off, then start your washer in the normal cycle without clothes in it, and if the noise isn't there with the belt off, then its likely a tranny problem again.

WELL, the good new is I took the belt off and IT DIDN'T MAKE THE NOISE!
When I replaced the transmission before, they sent a new agitator, I'm going to try to put in the old one and see what happens. Any other suggestions? Thanks!!!

Oh no, yea, it sounds like a tranny problem, but check your idler pulley really good, I've heard those make terrible noises as well.

I had someone check it out. Its the tranny again. Geez. I bought a cheap GE yesterday, I like it. If I get 5 years I'll be happy. They just don't make like they used to. Thanks for all your help.
