Default Intermittent Overload Relay Clicking

I got an Amana DRB2201CW, bought it in 10/03. For the past week or so it will make the frequently described 10 second buzzing sound every few minutes with no compressor running and accompaning gradual warming of the refrig and freezer. However it does not do this all the time. Sometimes this will go on for several hours, then the unit will operate correctly for a day or so. I took and tapped the overlaod relay with a screwdriver and it ran well for about 3 days, then the problem started again. From what I have read I should start to diagnose the problem by replacing the overload relay. Do I also need to replace the icemaker capacitor at the same time? Any problems or tricks associated with relay replacement?
Thank you for any assistance.

The Amana models usually have more compressor issues rather than start relay/overload problems, but from what you said, its possible your start relay is bad.

Here's the one for your model:
Manufacturer part#12555902 is RepairClinic item#821744

If it doesn't fix the problem, they give you 30 days to return it for a full refund.

Jake, Thank you for the swift response and advice. I replaced the Overload Relay and things ran beautifully for several hours. Then the buzzing and nonrunning started again and have intermittently continued over the last 36 hours. The unit buzzes for about 12 seconds every couple of minutes for several hours, then the refrig works correctly for a few hours, then the buzzing cycle repeats. So I will give the friendly repairman a call tomorrow as I believe that I have reached the limits of my repair ability. Sure am glad I'm still within the 5 year warantee period. Will let you know what the visiting pro says my problem is.

Thanks again

Ok, then you definitely have a bad compressor.

Yes, Amana will cover it under your 5 yr. warranty for parts & labor.
