But makes sound as if it is working properly. I noticed this because my clothes were very wet, and upon closer inspection -- I saw that not only was it not spinning during the spin cycle, but not agitating during wash cycles on any setting. I bought this machine used, and I'm not sure if this was not working prior to purchase or if the malfunction was caused during transport. In any case I'd like to try to repair myself before I either call a repairman or buy a new washer...Any Ideas on what may be the problem?

I just looked at the manual and it says if it's not agitating or spining it's probably a broken belt.
I've never tried to repair a washing machine before, so I'm a tad weary of trying it myself. If I do, is it pricey for any of these parts? And Would hiring a repair person be much more expensive? |

I am sorry, did not look up your model, how old is this washer? Is it a Direct Drive or belt driven washer....have not made the belt driven since 1985...

So upon further inspection, I've noticed it spins most of the time, but agitates very rarely, if at all. And it only spins on certain settings. I'm so confused. I want to make an attempt at fixing this myself but I want to see if I can get a good idea of what is really causing the problem before I do. I'm fairly certain it's the belt, but if it is spinning a bit slower than it should and agitating rarely, could this just mean that maybe the belt has moved from where it is suppose to be or is out of a groove it should be in? I did tip it forward when attaching the hoses and of course afterward, I read in the manual that I'm not suppose to do that. Also it did get bumped and moved around quite a bit during transport and I don't believe it was secured with the piece thats suppose to be in place at the bottom for moving.
Any other insite would be greatly appreciated! ![]() |
