Default 1998 Amana Side by Side Refrigerator - freezer not working

Hello,
I have just run into a problem with my Amana. Yesterday, the water dispenser wouldn't dispense any water, so we replaced the water filter. The water is still not dispensing and worse, now the freezer doesn't seem to be working. The ice is melting and along with that, the food in the freezer is starting to melt as well.

I am hoping someone can help identify what the possible problem can be.

Thanks in Advance for any help!

TT

Hi,

Is the freezer fan blowing air?

Is there frost build up inside the freezer on the back Panel?

Here is a link that will help you some more:

Hello,

Yes, there's frost on the inside. Weird thing is that the bottom of the freezer seems to work ok, its just the top.
Thanks

Sounds like either the freezer fan is not blowing , or the defrost thermostat/defrost timer/defrost heater is bad.

That link i gave you should help, if you wanted to run some tests, if you don't feel comfortable doing it, you can call a local appliance repair shop.

Sears charges about $160-$200 to complete the job, if its the freezer fan or a defrost problem.
