Default Condensor Fan

Amana Model SRD22S5W
P1190304WW

After repair of drain tube I have noticed a situation I would like to confirm:

When should the evaporator fan be running?

Most times when pulling the refrigerator away from the wall during my drain tube situation, I have noticed that the fan was running. I now on occasion, with the fridge in place do not always feel the air flow from the fan in the back of the fridge. No issues as far as temperature in the freezer or fridge compartments. No visible frost or water anywhere.

When repairing the drain tube, the back cover was removed from the fridge and all the surrounding areas in and around the inside were vacuumed clean. The fan on the motor turns freely.

When there seems to be no air flowing, if I tap the cover grill of the fan, the fan starts to run. Is this normal?

The real answer is more than likely the original question. When should the fan be running?

Thanks again for listening.

Thats the condenser fan thats in the back of your refrigerator next to your compressor, it should always be running when your compressor is running.

If tap on the front grille and it comes on, then its likely your condenser fan motor is starting to go out.

But you said it was running alot when you had it pulled out?

You won't feel much air that comes out the front, most stays in the back on the Amana brands.

Your evaporator fan is the one in your freezer.

If the Condender fan if working intermittently, can a tecnichian diagnose an issue. As I mentioned, if I tap on the fan outlet grill I can make the fan run. More than likely if I can make it run, it should probably be running, yes?

Yes, any tech. should know that if a condenser fan is working intermittently, then the condenser motor needs to be replaced. So It would be a good idea to change it before it quits altogether.

Here's the one for your model you can order:

Last question, I hope.

The air I feel is in the back of the fridge.

The "TAP" I am referring to is a "TAP" on the black grill type cover in fromt of the fan blades in the back of the fridge.

I am pretty sure I can install the condensor fan motor my self or at least my neighbor can for sure.

The bottom line question would then be, is the fan thermostatically controlled?

What controls the fan coming on with the compressor?

Thanks for your patience.

The control circuit is in series with your compressor, so when your temp. control thermostat tells the compressor to start, the fan always starts with it.

The TAP is the fan shroud you mean? Didn't you remove that to fix your drain tube? or maybe it was another member that did that.

Try adjusting your metal fan shroud to make sure your fan blade doesn't hit it.

"Try adjusting your metal fan shroud to make sure your fan blade doesn't hit it."

The fan blade is not touching the shroud

"The TAP is the fan shroud you mean? Didn't you remove that to fix your drain tube? or maybe it was another member that did that."

I pulled the fridge away from the wall today when I noticed the fan was not running. I then tapped on the fan shroud and the fan started slowly as if it was dragging then ran freely.

Is this dragging a symtom of a bad fan motor?
