Thumbs down Freezer side of Side by Side Not cold enough

Amana Model SRD22S5W
P1190304WW

The freezer side of my side by side Amana is not cold enough. Consequently Ice cream will not stay hard and I believe that is also the reason that the ice maker works PART TIME if at all.

Refigerator side is 40 degrees F ( can be made to go lower)

Freezer side can not get below 18 degrees F. Should by all I read get to
O degrees F.

Where should I start ??

Thanks in advance

Hi,

Take off the bottom front kickplate grill and check your condenser coils to make sure there not clogged with lint/dirt/pet hair.

Pull your refrigerator out from the wall, and see if your condenser fan on the bottom is blowing good.

Then take the food out of the freezer, and check your inside freezer back panel for frost build-up, better yet is to remove that panel and check your evaporator coils.

All the evaporator coils should have a thin layer of frost on them.

Let us know what you find.

Jake

Done.....

Pull your refrigerator out from the wall, and see if your condenser fan on the bottom is blowing good.

Blowing Good.....

Did not remove panels but at bottom of panel was a finned cut out that allowed me to see the bottom half of coils....NO FROST

All the evaporator coils should have a thin layer of frost on them.

Is your evaporator fan(freezer fan) running, can you hear it blowing?

If so, and the bottom half of your evaporator coils have no frost on them, then its likely you have a bad compressor.

Check your owners manual, some models have up to a 10 year warranty on the compressor from Amana.

After reading the similar scenerio from a recently published problem I have decided that my unit being 12 years old, I would purchase a new unit.

Thanks again for your opinion.
