Default Amana Defrost Issue

Model Number: ABD2533DEB
Brand: Amana
Age: 1 -5 years

We have an Amana Bottom Freezer refrigerator, model number ABD2533DEB. The back of the freezer ices over about every two days causing loss in refrigeration. I do not beleive it is going into defrost mode, and I beleive the defrost timer has gone bad. Any way to manually get it into defrost mode so I can eliminate the heater coil? Where is the timer located? Am I on the right track? Is the job of replacemen simple or complex?

Any help appreciated,
Dave

Hi Dave,

Next to the model# you should have a MFG#

I would need that number to see what type of defrost timer you have and the location of it.

Thanks,

Jake

I don't see anything listed as a MFG #, but there is a serial #13883877JG... is this what you need?

Thats fine.

The defrost mode on yours is not a timer, but its integrated into the control board, which is located inside your refrigerator section in the control console.

Read page 37 & 38 here:
http://www.servicematters.com/maytag...s/16025629.pdf
It tells you how to force it into defrost mode.

We forced defrost and the heater coil defrosted the ice. Do I need to replace the control panel, or just a piece that controls the defrost cylce. Any guidnace would be appreciated.

You would need to replace the control board.

Here's the one for your model you can order:
Manufacturer part number W10165748 is RepairClinic item number 1455147
W10165748

It comes with installation instructions.

Do ou feel my diagnostic is correct? Also, would you consider this repair difficult with potential to damage the new control board when installing? On a scale of 1 -5, 5 being extremely difficult ow would you rate this repair? Thanks for the help.

Yes, your diagnostic seems fine.

I would say its a 4 on the scale of 1-5. But like I tell others here, if your good with tools and have fixed other things around your house, then it shouldn't be a problem.
