Default Amana bottom freezer sagging?

I recently noticed (but I dont know when it started) that the freezer drawer on our Amana seems to be "sagging".

If you look at the gasket from the side of the fridge, the bottom of the gasket is compressed down to 1/4", but the top of the gasket is almost completely uncompressed (in fact I had to stretch it out a little by hand just so I didnt see the freezer drawer from outside!)

The case of the fridge seems fine, and its always been as level as I could get it (subfloor around the fridge area is a little messed up, previous water leak, etc).

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Chris,

How old is your Amana?

They did have a upgrade kit for the freezer door/drawer for this issue a few years back, I can give you the part#, but I need the model# of your refrigerator.

The model# tag should be located inside the refrigerator section on the upper walls or ceiling.

You rock, thanks!!

Im guessing I can just get any washer thats about the same size? Dont mind ordering parts if necessary, but wanted to at least temporarily fix the problem ASAP.

Thanks again.

Picked up a bunch of washers from HD.

Added 2 on each side and the freezer at least closes completely now. The gasket still isnt even top to bottom, but its greatly improved. I might add an additional washer to each side when I get a chance.

Funny thing is I dont think I ever noticed a real increase in electricity cost, even with the gasket not sealing correctly.

You may want to use a hair dryer to re-mold the top of the gasket. Move the hair dryer back and forth on the top of the gasket, it loosens up the nylon so it conforms better with the cabinet.

Thanks for the tip, Ill give it a shot tonight.

One more question - since this service bulletin only covered a certain amount of years, how did they fix the problem permanently? Was it a stiffer set of braces connecting the door to the slides, or did they redesign the whole setup?

Thanks.
