Default [FIXED] Model ALG643RBW, Gas wont stay lit?

We have a Gas dryer, model # ALG643RBW. It just started to not dry clothes. I popped off the lower cabinet cover, and noticed that the gas lights but it goes out almost imediately then lights again a few seconds later. It does this quite a few times. Where do i begin? Im thinking the coils are ok, since it doesnt have a problem igniting just staying lit. Thanks in advance

Hi,

Sorry for the delay.

1 of 2 things may be happening, either the flame is going out due to the high-limit thermostat shutting it down prematurely or your gas coils are bad.

First, pull your dryer away from the wall, then take the exhaust hose off and just start an empty load and let the air blow into your laundry room and see if the flame stays on, if it does, that means you have a exhaust vent restriction to the outside of your house.

If the flame still doesn't stay on then your gas coils are bad.

Here's the gas coil kit for your model:

Let us know what you find.

so i checked it out, and with the vent removed it worked ok. Got to looking and it had WAY too much vent hose. I shortened it by over a foot. It worked for a while, then stopped working later in the night. Im thinking the coils are bad, and when they got hot they stopped working. Am i right?

True, but it also may be shutting down due to your high-limit thermostat getting to hot as well.

Try one load with the exhaust vent off completely, open some windows to let the hot air out if you have this dryer inside your house.

If it still does the same thing with the exhaust vent off, then yes, the gas coils are bad.
