Default Amana20 freezing water

I have an Amana 20 Refrigerator built about 1975. Lately Ive noticed water and liquids freezing in the refrigerator, so I turned the temp control all the way to the lowest setting. Still freezes. The freezer section works great.

I suspect this refrigerator is on its last leg and simply needs replaced.

Rather than call for local service and pay $40-75 and hear what I already suspect, I gladly pay $5 to ask if there is a reasonable chance, based on the age, model and symptoms, if the problem could be a simple fix, such as a blocked drainage line?

Hi,

It sounds like your cold control thermostat has gone bad. Its not a major repair, but some parts are not available after 20 years.

Whats the model# of your refrigerator? Its usually located either inside the refrigerator section on the upper walls or ceiling, or down below your door on the bottom frame.

Ok Tim,

There's no way to test it when its getting too cold, but thats the only part it can be for the issue your having.

Here's the cold control thermostat for your model:
Manufacturer part number B0592305 is RepairClinic item number 915

Just a small note on a symptom I didnt to mention...I have a lot of dripping water from the refrig ceiling that freezes. In the summer I had a lot of water that had to be soaked up with rag along the upper front edge near the light. I wondered if some of this moisture is caused by a plugged drain that in turn froze and effected the thermostat?

Its mainly caused by air leaks from your door gaskets, with an older refrigerator like yours its common.

When you decide to buy a new refrigerator that will end and your electric will drop quite a bit.
