Exclamation Amana DRB190CW: Bottom freezer problem

Hi I have a question about my Amana refrigerator, the freezer won't freeze. I vaccumed the coil underneath, I checked the fan , its working fine... but ice cubes are watery, I had to throw all the food because it went bad. By the way, the refrigerator came with the house, I assume its around 4 years old. Please help . Here's some information about the unit.
Amana
model: DRB190CW
s/n: 10493045AE

Thank you!

Alex.

Hi,

It could be several things causing this, If you notice the inside back of the freezer panel is frosted over, then its likely you have a bad part in the automatic defrost system:
http://www.applianceaid.com/frig_notcold.html

If you don't notice any built up frost on that back freezer panel, then its likely your compressor may have gone out, if so, its covered for 5 yrs. parts and labor. Then you can call Amana to have a authorized servicer come and replace the compressor.

Yes! There is ice build up inside back of the freezer. However, I looked at the link you gave me but quiet frankly I don't understand much about refrigerators and I don't know what to do or where to start.

I was thinking about calling Amana but since I'm not the original purchaser of the unit (I don't have a receipt but I do have the owner's manual)...do you think I still have warranty with Amana?

If there's frost build up on that back freezer panel, then its a problem in the auto defrost system or the evaporator fan motor, the 5 yr. warranty won't cover that, its only covers the compressor.

You could call Amana to have someone come and fix it, or any local appliance company in your town, the price they will charge to fix it will be about $130-$175.

Hi!!! After a few weeks here I am with an update!!! Well... I called a local technician, he checked the refrigerator for 10 seconds and he said it was a freon leak, he said he didn't do that type of work, he also said it should still under warranty, so I called Amana and they sent a technician, a week later the technician came and fixed the problem. He replaced the broken tubing piece, refilled the freon and now the unit works better than ever. And best of all, it was at no extra cost. So I'm really happy about it.
I just have one small problem, the ice maker is no longer producing ice. When the technician came and got the ice maker working I noticed he used some sort of small red wire where he connected it one end inside a hole and the other end in another hole. Can you explain if that has anything to do with the ice maker not working. Maybe this time I can fix it myself. Thanks!

Glad the tech. fixed your cooling problem.

What he did was jump start the ice maker, if its not making ice check that rubber fill tube that goes into the back of it, to make sure you don't have an ice blockage in there, also make sure the ice maker sensor arm is all the way down.

I checked the rubber fill tube behind it and it felt soft so I'm assuming water is flowing fine, which seems it's not blocked with ice, also the ice maker sensor arm is completely down. I made sure it was.
What I also did was to remove the plastic cover which covers the wheel thing that rotates to find out the wheel is not rotating, but it seems it wants to but for some weird reason it can't. I wanted to move with my hand but I read the "do not rotate by hand" and decided it was a bad idea. Any other suggestion Jake?

Jeff has a great detailed webpage on Ice Makers that should help you solve it:
