ignition stopped working for all four burners
Brand:
Amana
Age:
6-10 years
Hi, As the title says, the ignition stopped working for our range. When we turn the knob to "lite", the gas comes out but we do not hear the clicking sound of the ignition (actually don't hear any sound). We can light the burners with a match. This issue came on suddenly and affects all four burners the same. All other electronics (oven light, digital display, timer) are working normally so there's power coming in. I'm thinking that the problem is not in the burners but further in, maybe at the control panel. Or maybe there's a fuse that I should look at? I have the Amana Repair Manual S231_2R1 but am finding it a bit cryptic.

Thank you for this recommendation. Is it difficult to access this module? Is there any way to diagnose it, for example with a volt-ammeter?
Secondly, is there a single spark module for the burners and the oven, or a separate one for the oven? Our oven also does not ignite.
thanks!

You can check for 120 VAC between L-N on the module. The oven problem may be a separate issue. I'll need your complete model number and BOM#. Nothing comes up with that one. Help Me Find My Model Number - RepairClinic.com

I am not sure what a BOM# is (Bill of Materials?).
I understand that we need to determine if the oven lights by spark or by glow bar.
thanks!

Separately, I have removed the spark module from under the stove top and am getting a replacement.
thanks!

You'll need to use a VOM to see if the igniter is getting 110 VAC. You may need to replace the igniter also.

Thank you, I have finally gotten around to testing the oven glow bar. (For the stovetop, I replaced the igniter module and now all the burners are working again!)
In the oven, I have found that the bottom glow bar and the upper one for the broiler both glow brightly (when I try to light the oven or the broiler, respectively). However, the broiler will light, while the lower oven burner will not light. Does this clearly identify the lower glow bar as defective? For the oven burner, is it still possible that the problem is not the glow bar but something in the gas control system? I have read that I should be able to check the amount of amps drawn by the glow bar if I had a clamp-on ammeter (which I do not). Is there an independent diagnostic of the gas control system? Do I just put in a new glow bar anyway, and if that wasn't it, then we know it is something else?
thanks!

If you have a meter that can read amps, you don't need an amp probe. Connect it like this and turn on the oven
