Default Help Please!! Amana Freezer Handle Replacement

I just bought an Amana ABB2524DES stainless steel single door, bottom freezer refrigerator. I want to change the handles to black ones to match my stove.

I've been told by 2 Maytag stores that they don't want to replace the handle on the bottom freezer drawer because it is very easy to damage the stainless steel front on the freezer. So, I have to tackle this myself! I have new handles from the black model, same fridge ABB2524DEB but now I desperately need your help.

How do I change the handle on the botton freezer without damaging the stainless steel. Any and all help would be GREATLY appreciated!!

Thanks in advance,

Rod (refrigerator novice)

Its been awhile since i changed the handle on these, i believe you just move/slide the handle to the right or left, you may to pull hard, just be careful not to scratch the door, it shouldn't scratch it because the bottom side of the handle is smooth.

Default Amana Bottom Freezer Handle Removal

Thanks for the response Jake.

Does anyone know for sure if you slide the handle to the right or left to remove it?? Any diagrams? Is there nothing to remove from the inside of the door or it just slides directly to the left or right? No up or down movement? I have to be precise because I can't afford to damage the stainless steel.

Thanks everyone!!

You may want to go to the Amana website, they may have a diagram you can download.

Here is a picture of it, it shows the handle and its held on by 2 clips like i remember, it does just slide to remove it.

If you don't want to do it yourself, you can call Sears, they will do it for you, but will charge you like $100, but if they scratch it, they pay for a new door.

Check in your owners manual. There should be a plastic card in there used to remove the handle. You shove it in between the handle and the door on the left inside part of the handle. Then push the freezer handle towards the right. Good luck. Not a good system. Very high chance the freezer door is going to be scratched. That is why Maytag and any other company will not do it unless it NEEDS to be changed.
