Thread: Model AFD2535DEW No refrigerator cooling; freezer ok

So you freezer is freezing everything really good, but its not so cool in your refrigerator section?

Thats your cold air damper that puts cold air into your refrigerator section, if you don't feel much air coming out, then its likely your evaporator fan motor, or an ice/frost clog in your air tunnel that goes from your freezer up to your refrigerator damper.

If you hear a bunch of gear/motor noises when you turn it back on, then the noise completely stops? or is your evaporator fan in your freezer still blowing cold air in your freezer?

That's correct-no air flow into the refrigerator section. The motor/gear noise I hear sounds like something is cycling through its paces, then stops. But it only makes the noise if I turn the temp selector until two dashes are displayed, wait a few seconds, then return them to their previous settings. There does seem to be some air flow within the freezer section. I can see a fan moving if I pull the unit away from the wall and look at the left-rear corner.

That fan in the back is your condenser fan, the one I'm referring to is inside your freezer, put your hand over the freezer vents to see if lots of cold air is coming out. Do you hear your freezer fan running at all either?

Jake,
Think you might have nailed it. The compressor runs, as does the condensor fan. There is little, if any, air movement in the freezer compartment. Took the bottom back panels off to clean the rear of the coils and the fan, but can't locate the evap. fan you mentioned. Is it in a sealed portion of the unit?

#4 is your inside freezer back panel, #18 is your evaporator fan motor.
#8 is the screws that mount your evaporator fan to the motor support bracket.

All fixed now! Thanks for your guidance. I actually had a friendly repair crew who really got a chuckle when I suggested this as the problem. They had a replacement kit on the truck and got it changed out in no time. We are back in the cooling business! The motor they took out was encased in a plastic housing. The replacement looks heavier duty and really moves the air.

I have a Kenmore bottom freezer unit that the freezer works but the fridge part doesnt. Any ideas?
