Default Amana side-by-side filtered water flow issue

I have a 6-year old amana SXD23VE side-by-side with icemaker and "thru the door" filtered water. The water began to have a delay, eventually up to a minute, after pressing the button/lever at the dispenser. The flow has now completely stopped, and would like to repair it myself if possible.

To this point, I have replaced the clean-n-clear filter (which had no affect) and pulled the water supply at the back of the unit, which resulted in a strong flow from the somewhat flexible copper line. The line didn't have any kinks and the saddle valve at the source is a 'fixed' type -- not a "punch thru" version. I also disconnected the supply at the bottom of the door (in the hinge) to see if something between there and the dispenser was blocked -- resulting in the same low flow issues.

Also, some of the ice cubes are hollow, so I suspect that dual water value could be the issue. Are there a few more tests that I can try to locate the issue?

Additionally, is there a website that has the 'dual valve' item number required for replacement? The manual included with the refrigerator does not include a schematic or parts list.

Thanks, Dave

Looking at image 3, it appears that there are two valves. I remember the original design had a Y-connector which gave no end of problems.

"Before Filter" valve, Amana part number R0000242 - this appears to replace the Y-connector, and comes complete with instructions. Given that you're having issues with both water and icemaker, I'd suspect this to be the issue.

"After Filter" valve, Amana part number 12544101.

Thanks. That looks like what may be causing the problem. Is there any way to test it? I was thinking about unscrewing the valve unit (which I already did once when inspecting the incomming water supply), removing the outbound water lines, placing the unit over a bucket (electric connections still attached), and trying to dispense water from the front of the refrigerator. Would this be a way to rule out problems with the 'after filter' valve?

You're thinking logically, which always helps. If good flow there, then it's the "after filter" valve, or the water connection to it.

Thumbs up repair update

It indeed was the 'pre filter' causing the issue. Installation was easy -- probably took longer to turn water supply on/off than it did to replace it. New tube fitting is larger in diameter than the old 'y' setup, allowing a much stronger flow of water thru the door. I would have replaced it without a failure if I knew that the flow would increase that much.

Only downside was the poor shipping time from 'repairclinic.com' -- not their fault, but using USPS is obviously not the best way to send a small package a short distance. I would have paid more for UPS.

Thumbs up Mine two

I had the same issue. Amana fridge ~7 years old. Water took up to 30 seconds to come out and the ice maker would only make little ice cubes that were hollow. Replaced the solenoid (#12313403/#R0000242) and it works great now. I think the problem occurred when the fridge was unplugged for a week while the hardwood floors were being refinished and the gaskets dried out and became sticky.
