While I'm waiting for a reply to my Kenmore dishwasher woes, I thought it might be nice to share a very positive experience I've had with my disposal.
About 15 years ago I needed to replace the crummy “contractor grade” disposal that came with the house. Like every disposal I've every owned, this one was starting to corrode and leak.
As I shopped around, every disposal I looked at appeared similar until I stumbled upon a Sinkmaster model 750 made by Anaheim Manufacturing Company. While it cost about the same as competitive products, the construction and warranty coverage were quite different.
The first thing I noticed was how lightweight the box was when I picked it up off the store shelve. Rather than a metal body and traditional squirrel cage motor this unit had a plastic body and a permanent magnet motor. How rugged and reliable can this be? Well, the next thing I noticed on the box was the warranty.
The basic warranty covered every aspect of the disposal for 10 years and it stated that to receive service:
“Contact the installer or return inoperative disposer to the place of purchase. They will replace your inoperative disposer with a new disposer at no charge to you. Original sales receipt required.”
Wow! All the other manufacturers required me to ship (at my expense) their defective disposal to some far away factory and wait for several weeks to have it fixed and shipped back. What I'm I going to do with a big hole in my sink for 3 to 6 weeks waiting to get my disposal back?
In addition to the basic warranty, the Sinkmaster was also covered by a “Lifetime Corrosion Warranty”. None of the other brands offered anything close to that, so I took a leap of faith and bought the Sinkmaster.
Fifteen (15) years later I'm still happy I purchased the Sinkmaster. My family and I toss just about any and everything you can reasonably expect a disposal to chew up and it does the job.
The only maintenance required is you need to replace the rubber splash guard every year or so. It's no big deal as the Sinkmaster splash guards are like a stopper, you just push it into the mouth of the hole – no tools required. Until a couple of years ago I could find the splash guards locally for about $6.00 each, but recently I couldn't find a single store in my area that carried them. When I contacted Anaheim Manufacturing they suggested a place near Los Angeles called Hookers Repair Service.
A week ago I called Hookers Repair Service and they knew just what I wanted. The total price for five (5) new splash guards and UPS Blue shipping came to around $15.00. So even with the the shipping charge it cost me less than I was paying before and my new splash guards arrived two days later.
So in closing I've been very happy with my disposal and I could only wish that all the other appliances I've purchased in the past 15 years would have performed as well. I should also mention that I have no connection to any of these companies in any way other than being a satisfied customer.
