Hi gang :)

Just replaced the 8 year old builder grade (Badger 1/2 HP) disposal unit since it was loud, wasn't working very well, frequently backed up (especially if not ran before running the dishwasher), and the wife got tired of calling me over to plunge the sink.

I replaced it with an Insinkerator Evolution SpaceSaver 5/8 hp. The install went fine, no fitment problems, turned right on (had to really listen to make sure, it's QUIET and smooooooth) and it works like a champ.

Only one problem; when running the dishwasher, the dishwasher only wants to drain through the vent! I didn't change any of that plumbing, but then I got to looking at it and the dishwasher drain line does run right up to the vent, where it T's into about a 3/4" hose that then returns to the disposal unit.

Checked the trap, and the clearout, both perfectly clean. Is there a check valve or something on the vent that can go bad? I haven't gone back to Lowe's yet since I always get much better advice here. My Dad is usually pretty good on this sort of thing but he's stumped too.

Thanks in advance!

Bryan

I have no clue about any of this since do not do disposals but just making sure you knocked out the plug where you attach the dw drain hose...

Plug?

Man, do I feel stupid. Skimmed right over that in the directions....d'oh! Just took it apart real quick, reread the directions, and right there 'knock plug out for hooking up to dishwasher'.

Thanks Pegi :D Just knocked it out and hooked it back up, I expect I won't have dirty dishwater spraying out of my vent the next time the dishwasher runs.

Now, I just have to come up with a good story to tell the wife.......:D
