I have a Bosch DLX series dishwasher. Recently my kitchen sink (through the disposal) was clogged and somehow contributed to the water backing up and not draining in the dishwasher - about 2 - 3 inches. We noticed when we opened the dishwasher to remove the dishes. After the clog was repaired in the sink/disposal, the dishwasher drained and I thought all was fine. However, there is no water now going into the dishwasher. It runs - just no water goes in. We have checked the water line - it is open and running. Checked the hose under the dishwasher which also appears to be receiving water. Any idea on why no water is actually going into the dishwasher? Is there a reset button or something? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Jimmy C

Not to sound like a total idiot - but where is the float?

It should be located inside the dishwasher on the bottom of the tub, usually in the right front corner.
Whats the model# so i can pull up a parts picture?

Here is a parts breakdown:
http://www.applianceblog.com/archives/BoschFloat.jpg
Number 29 is the water float assembly , number 28 is the float switch.
Sorry if it looks confusing, Bosch is the hardest dishwasher in the world to work on, I even cringe whenever i have to work on one.:D
Maybe Jeff, Dan O. or Mad Mac can help more on this.

Hi,
The float switch and assembly is usually behind the fill valve....oftne have to pull the d/w out to access it ( some even have side panals that must come off ).
-Usually- if the float is stuck up the d/w will drain only....no wash motor and no filling.
**SHU3336UC**
That is part of a full model#. I found SHU3336UC-06 SHU3336UC-11 SHU3336UC-12

The full model number includes -12... I noticed that last night. starting tothink I'm going to have to call someone to help with the repair. Any advice on whether or not I should give this a first shot on my own - or is that a recipe for disaster?

I Would saydon't waste your time trying to figure this problem out, as even for us techs, its a nightmare, very very time consuming, As most other appliance manufacturers are making appliances easier to work on, Bosch seems to be going the opposite way, taking us techs back to the stone age of appliance repair.
We techs have 8-10 service calls a day with lots of travel time between calls, so the Bosch unit takes so long to repair and you have to pull it out even for the minor repairs, thats what kills a techs production and customers are upset because we cant get to the other appliance repair calls if we have a Bosch on our routes with a problem that involves pulling the unit and testing.
Now if we had a small route, then thats fine, We techs wouldn't mind takingthe time on these that they require. But its a rarethat we have small routes.

Ok, how's this for crazy. My mother-in-law mentioned our problem to the maintenance man at the nursing home she works at. He described a similar situation he was faced with once and said he tried to "trick" the dishwasher into thinking there was water in it by pouring a couple of liters into the bottom and hitting rinse. We just tried and it worked! After rinsing out the water we poured in we started a new cycle and the water ran into the machine and everything seems to be working fine.
Thanks for all your help. I really like the way your blog is setup and the fact you guys were so great in getting back with me.

Jake,
I have the same problem as you helped Jimmy C with in January. I have a Bosch SHV 4300 series dishwasher (model # SHU9915UC) . Last night my kitchen sink (through the disposal) was clogged and somehow contributed to the water backing up and not draining in the dishwasher - about 2 - 3 inches. From reading these blogs, I believe the problem is with the float switch being stuck in the UP position. However, I've not been able to locate the float switch. Can you help direct me?
thanks
