I had to replace a control panel in September because it shorted out and kicked the bucket. Fair enough. I bought a replacement CP Y0315570 and installed it.

All worked well, but something was odd. When I came home from work the next day, the clock was flashing. So I figured I lost power during the day. It was OK for a few days, then did the same thing -- I came home and the clock was flashing. Odd. It happened on and off since I installed it, and I thought I might have had power issues. I checked other devices and I hadn't lost power at all, though the clock would be flashing. Fast forward until about a couple weeks ago. I hadn't used the oven (believe it or not) until then.

When the oven heated up, the display went blank and the oven element went out. The stovetop elements still worked fine using the dial controls, but I had absolutely no control of the oven while the display went out. I turned off the breaker just to be safe, and when it cooled down the oven worked again. Until it got warm. If I use either of the front elements and that area of the stove gets warm, the display shuts off and comes on about a minute later.

This is troubling, as we're unable to use the oven AND we don't trust it enough to leave it powered on. Could this be simply a bad control module? What on the module would cause this? There is a step-down transformer on the module (yellow transformer), could that be a problem? Has anyone seen something like this before?

Yes,

It sounds like a bad control board. I've replaced many of these over 20 years for this same issue.

Here's the one for your model:

Thanks for the info. I'm getting it replaced under warranty (it's basically DOA), so that should do it. It's strange that it had thermal issues, but with electronics anything's possible.

I've filled in (with high-temp silicone) the small hole that's directly above the control panel. An accidental spill caused the original unit to stop working, because the liquid dripped through that hole onto the first unit. That's why I replaced it (with the faulty unit) in the first place.

I'll dissect the DOA unit and see if I can't come up with something. I'll let you know what I find out.
