View Full Version : Kitchen Aid Clean Light Blinks 7 Times

I purchassed a Kitchenaid KUDS01FLSS6 about three weeks ago and have had nothing but problems. The "Clean"light blinks in a series of seven blinks. A repair man came out and told us to run hot water from the kitchen sink and that would solve the problem. It has not. Any other ideas?
Another problem (when it was working) was that the door would sometimes pop open in mid cycle shutting off the machine.
Is this a lemon?
Is this model known for problems?

Hi,
If its only 3 weeks old and a tech. already came out and didn't get it going for you, you can get an exchange for another new dishwasher, its rare to have problems with these, could be a door latch problem , since you say the door popped open.

We have the same problem! The blinking seven times started today, stopping the dishwasher in mid-wash. Our washer is three years old and out of warranty. Any other suggestions or know what the problem is?

Oh and CaliMan, the repairman just said to run hot water into the sink? What difference would that make to the dishwasher??

Hi Sun and Fun,
Take off the bottom access panel, you will see a tech. service sheet that will give you all the codes and suggested fixes.

I had the '7 blinks' problem also. I took off the service panel as you suggested and put in the warm water (for the thermistor test) and then ran the diagnostics by pressing the buttons as the service sheet says. Now it seems to be working!!
thx:)

After running the diagnostics (successfully, I think - how would I know if they said there was a problem?), I was able to start a wash cycle but it only ran for a few minutes then stopped with the '7 blinks' of the 'clean' light.
This is a 5 year old KitchenAid KUDS01DJBL0.
Any ideas on what to try next?
thx

7 times blinking usually means a problem with the heating element circuit.
You can download the complete repair manual here:

Thanks for the pointer. I downloaded the manual (actually, all 4 copies - and they all look the same to me) and it appears to be for a Whirlpool with a very different looking front panel than my KitchenAid. Much of the data looks similar to the tech service sheet under the front access panel.
But neither says what to do if the 'clean' light blinks 7 times. Is it time to call the repairman for a housecall?
thx

The repair man came and says we need a new electronics board and a new motor. Can't get a rational explanation about why they both went out at the same time. At one time he says the motor is frozen because there is a leak that caused it to rust, another he says water is what lubricates the motor and it did not have water in the right place so no lubrication. Then water supposedly got into the electric board.
Wants $325 for the work.
A year ago we paid $125 for a new heating element.
This was an expensive dishwasher and now its costing lots to keep running. I am thinking of just getting a new lower cost Amana ADB1500AW for $279. Grrr.

Yea, i don't think you would need a new motor.
I know Sears has a special program where they charge your credit card on the phone for about $180 then they will send a tech. and and fix it for no charge, even if you needed the motor and the control board, they wouldn't charge you anything else! Its called a Service Smart Contract.
And if its over $500 to repair, they will give you a $500 in store credit for a new dishwasher. You can call them at 1-800-4-MYHOME to get this.
Other than that, buying that Amana for $279 would be they way to go!:)
