I am baffled. My dishwasher sounds like a truck and vibrates like one too several times during the cycle. The sound will stop completely if I turn on the water full force anywhere in the house. If I don't turn on the water the sound goes away after about a minute. Does anyone have any ideas for me? THANKS!!

Hi,
Is it making that noise when its filling with water? If so, then the water valve in the dishwasher is going bad.

Jake,
Thanks for getting back to me. I think that the sound is coming when the dishwasher is filling. I'm going to turn off the water going to the dishwasher (under the sink) and see if the sound goes away when I run the dishwasher. If I buy the part, can I install it myself? Thanks!

Yes, its fairly easy. Just un-screw the water line that connects to the valve, un-mount the water valve from the dishwasher frame, then un-do the rubber line that goes into the dishwasher.

I don't know Jake, I really don't have access to the dishwasher frame. I don't know if I could do this. My dishwasher is surrounded by cabinets. I guess I would have to pull out the dishwasher? I have another question for you though. Last night I turned off the water feed to the dishwasher. (I'm actually not positive that that's what I did, but I turned off two metal knobs under the kitchen sink that had hoses heading in the direction of the dishwasher.) Then I turned on the dishwasher and there was no vibrating motor sound like there ususally is. My concern is that this is a plumbing problem instead of a dishwasher problem. If I do call someone out to fix it, I want to call the right person so that I don't waste money. The reason I think it could be a plumbing problem is because when I turn on the water, the sound goes away immediately. Thank you Jake for responding to me!!

So you turned off the water supply to the dishwasher and you didn't hear that vibrating sound when you started the dishwasher?
If you didn't hear it, then its the water valve thats bad.
The vibrating sounds only is there when you start the dishwasher and water is running into it with the water supply on?
You don't have to pull the dishwasher out to change the water valve.
If you don't feel comfortable doing it, by all means call a appliance service shop in your area, or Sears. The Sears techs. do a good job, backed by a good warranty.

So then its normal that me turning on the water fixes the problem when the valve is broken?
If I order the valve you suggested, will there be instructions on how to install it in the package?

Its normal when you turn the water on, not to hear that vibration noise.
No, I don't believe there are instructions in the package.

Thanks for the help Jake! I ended up getting the water inlet valve replaced today. I hired someone to fix it because I really didn't think I could do it myself. I hired the "right" person though - because I knew exactly what needed to be done. Everything is working great now! Thanks again!
