Hello, I have a Frigidaire dishwasher model fdb834rfr0 that is about 6 1/2 years old.

When starting a cycle, it runs for a little bit (a few minutes?) then stops. All the stage lights flash together (controls locked, add-a-dish, washing, rinsing, drying, clean). I can push a few buttons (not sure which do it) and it starts running again only to do the same after a few minutes.

Anyone know how I might troubleshoot this?

What's the average life expectancy of such a unit?

Thanks.

I can only think of a problem in the electronic control itself or maybe (on the very outside) a problem (shorted/stuck key) in the control keypad. But checking for proper grounding and polarity of the dishwasher's power supply should be done as a matter of course (regardless of how long it may have worked Ok on the same supply).

If not a problem in the unit's power supply, I would think electronic control being defective would be the most likely cause of the symptom you report. :(

On most electronically controlled appliances there will usually be a 'tech sheet' with its wiring diagram which will often provide some troubleshooting procedures. In the case of dishwashers, the wiring diagram is usually in a small pocket, pouch or envelope behind the lower access panel.

BTW. I don't know if it will help any but you can see exploded view part illustrations of your model dishwasher at the following link.

Until it gets more expensive to fix than to replace or maybe 1/2 the price of a new one. There is no set life span but with most newer dishwashers, I doubt they'll get past the 10-12 year mark. :(

Thanks for the quick response. Looks like an electronics replacement will be costly.:(
