GE Spacemaker Laundry - Wash Cycle Selector

I have a GE spacemaker laundry model WSM2700WBWWW. Recently the cycle selector for the washer works intermittently. Half the time I turn it to a setting, pull it out, and nothing happens. If I keep turing the knob I can get it to fill, drain or spin at different times so all the functions seem to work.

I think the knob itself might be stripped ro mis-aligned. Does that make any sense? Any other ideas?

I would say your timer is going bad, has bad contact spots in it.
