View Full Version : GE washer spins way too fast

My top load GE washer was making a slight squealing sound when it was spinning at about the correct speed. Now it has stopped making the squealing noise, but it spins so hard and so fast that if the water level is set for the largest load, it will spin the water over the top of the outer tub. The spin speed is much too fast and when I raise the lid, it still spins for 2 or 3 minutes. It just spins so fast that it can't stop any quicker. The spin cycle is also so loud now that it can be heard all over the house.
Can someone please give me an answer for my problem, PLEASE?
Thanks,

Hi,

I have seen alot of these GE washers do this, your transmission/brake assembly has gone out, you will need a new one.

This link explains about it:
