My GE washer, which is 20 some years old, was just hooked up after a 10 year hiatas. Used to belong to my parents, they moved, left it, I moved it in 1996 thinking to replace the washer I inherited --a Kenmore that looks like its 40 years old, but the Kenmore never died. Long story short, hooked up the GE yesterday with new hoses, tried it today and its leaking out the bottom all over the place. Buy a new one, or spend the money to replace? Thanks

Hi,

Either your main tub seal has dried out and cracked for that 10 years you weren't using it, or it came loose in the move. I'm thinking its more likely the rubber just dried out and cracked, and you may have other parts that are on the verge of going out. It would probably be a better idea to just buy a new washer, as todays washers are more energy efficient than 20 years ago.
