fan knob and stalk broken

I just broke the fan knob and stalk on my Jenn Air range, cvex4270. I will be calling a repair person to fix this. My question is this: how involved with this repair be? I am concerned that the repair will be costly because of the broken stalk. Any input is appreciated so my sticker shock is not so bad.
