Fridgidaire Dishwasher has no signs of life.

Hi,

We have a Fridgidaire Dishwasher and are having some problems.

We are here in Washington state and just had wide spread power outages due to storm damage.

Now our dishwasher does not work.

I am pretty sure we had a spike of high voltage/220 due to generator problems.

There is no display or signs of life anywhere.

Is there a fuse that may have protected the machine?

If I have to replace the board, can I get it much cheaper than a whole new machine?

Where would I start looking?

The dishwasher is less than a year old so I would really like to fix it instead of replacing.

If all we lost were a few appliances then we still consider ourseleves lucky. I just like to try and fix things instead of throwing them out.

Yes, that was quite a windstorm, much worse in Washington than here in Oregon this time, a couple years ago, we had a big windstorm here that did alot of damage and we lost power for many hours, but not days, Thank God.

We need the model# of your dishwasher to help you out.

Sorry about that, I had the number here and I forgot to list the model number.

I also figured out that it was not a 220 jolt it and the rest of the wiring got. If it is related to the generator then what is wrong is the guy that wired it has two of the wires going to the wrong place. He hooked the green to one of the power sides and one of the power wires to the ground. We lost the dishwaser, the microwave, a TV, a phone charger and an electric blanket. But we did not get hit by a tree like so many others so we feel very fortunate!

After I had started the generator we flipped a switch to the closet light and noticed it was very bright. Right after that I disconnected the generator.

Of course from what i hear is that it is not uncommon to lose some electronics if they are plugged in when the power comes back up.

Jake, what part of Oregon are you in? We were without power for four days. But we are lucky in that we had a nice woodstove. And once I found out about the bad wiring job of the generator and just hooked directly to the generator we could keep our fridge and freezer cold by hooking them up about every 8-12 hours.

I just hope we can salvage the dishwasher!

The control boards may have fried, along with other electrical parts. Lets start with the control board:

Are you saying that at the minimum I need to replace those two boards?

There are no fuses that protect those boards.

Yes, its likely you will need to first replace those boards.

I know it's been almost a month since you posted this but you should call your homeowners insurance agent. Damage from artificially generated electrical current is covered. I had a similar problem year and a half ago with a generator and I got a new TV and treadmill. The cable box got fried but that belonged to the cable company. All I paid was my $250 deductible. Since it was likely caused by the error of the electrictian, the insurance company will probally pay you and then attempt recovery from him.
