My old Caloric range will not turn the bake or the broil side of the burners on. I replaced the dual valve that supplies both burners. The igniters work
fine. What else can be causing the valve to remain closed?

Are you getting gas to the surface units? Also , when you replaced the safety valve, did you turn the shut off valve by the regulator back on? One more thing, I've had to replace many igniter's that were glowing red but not pulling enough amps to open the safety valve, but it's always been one or the other. I can't remember having to replace both at the same time. To check them you would need an amp probe to clamp around one of the igniter wires.

Thank you Rick for the advice.
The surface burners work fine.
I have replaced the valve due to an earlier diagnosis, when the unit worked
on and off. I'm sure right now that the igniters have gotten too old and this changed the resistance value, what is needed for the valve. Since I have put a new valve on the only thing left is to change the igniters.
Thank you again.

PS
Maybe it is silly to goof around with an old stove, but I love to fix things and this is in a second kitchen of our house.

I'll have to agree with you about the igniters. I would still check them with an amp meter. It should tell you on the safty valve how many amps it needs to open. I don't think it's silly at all to want to fix older appliances. I've been doing it for 20+ years and couldn't see doing anything else. My favorite appliances to fix are the one's I'm told can't be fixed. Good luck with your range. If you run into a problem remember we're here to help.
