Hi,
The clutch also drives the spin, if that works the clutch may be ok.
**my washer will not agigate.**
Motor still runs? Seized transmission is possible but more often than not we see a stripped out coupler for the agitator.
http://store1.yimg.com/I/a-1appliance_1810_8409560.GIFAir bell coupler for the agitator (http://store.yahoo.com/cgi-bin/clink?a-1appliance+tSwkBf+agcoupairbel.html)
This is under the agitator and will strip out inside stopping the agitator from going back and forth.
Some access helps are here (http://www.applianceaid.com/generalwash.html#agitator).

**the belt does not turn**
Not good :(

The motor is above, the belt is on bottom part of the clutch....the motor won't run in the agitate mode?
**Is that the clutch that the belt isholding on to.**
The belt goes around the clutch and over tothe tranny pulley, maybe slip off the belt and see what turns by hand. Tranny pulley should turn in one direction for spin and in the other direction for agitation.
What the clutch looks like http://store1.yimg.com/I/a-1appliance_1810_13602355.GIFThis clutch is for the new style GE/Hotpoint/RCA washers (http://store.yahoo.com/cgi-bin/clink?a-1appliance+tSwkBf+newstylgeclu.html).

If the motor is turning but the clutch is not, either the clutch is slipping on the motor shaft or the clutch is worn and not grabbing properly so its outer pulley/drum can not drive the belt.
If both the motor and clutch are turning but the belt is not, the belt could be slipping on the clutch (maybe from not being tight enough) or the transmission is jammed and not letting the belt move it, causing the belt to slip there or at the clutch. In either case I would think those would usually result in the belt burning and showing visible signs of damage (http://www.applianceaid.com/images/belts.jpg).

are there any other signs to let me know that the transmission is not working. I just replaced the clutch. the clutch turns but not the belt and the clutch get hot pretty fast. is that a sign of the transmission gone bad?

Try turning the tranny pulley manually by hand in both directions....lets us know what happens or doesn't happen.
