View Full Version : How do I unclog the drain hose on my dishwasher?

I have a Frigidaire 650 series dishwasher, installed in 2002. It's been perfect until last night. It didn't drain. We took all of the screens off and cleaned them but it still won't drain. This morning, I took the drain hose off of the food waste disposer and waited for the water to drain through the hose into a pan but it didn't. And it was HOT water. ... I think the hose has cooking grease stuck in it. I pour grease down the drain about once a week and, judging by the yellow color inside the opaque hose, I'm pretty sure that's what is going on. (No, I won't do THAT again.) I had no idea that the grease wouldn't just go straight down the drain... Anyway, does anyone have any idea how I can get the grease out of there? Vinegar? Or is there a chemical that won't hurt the hose? Thanks.

:D I FIXED MY DISHWASHER!! I'm so proud of myself! I could see a yellow "plug" of grease inside the hose that hooks to the waste disposal, under the sink. I disconnected it and poured boiling water down it, shaking it, emptying it out and repeating the process. FINALLY the water dislodged the plug and the dishwasher water (which was trying to empty through that hose) broke through. Of course, there's water all over the kitchen floor, but WHO CARES???! IT WORKS!! (Yes, I was praying all the way through! I don't have a job right now -- well, just a small one that keeps me humble -- and no money for major repairs, so this really IS a blessing!)

Maybe someone else will benefit by this...

Hi, Maggi! I'm so glad you were able to use this message! I see there have been 162 "views" of it, which means that this is an important resource for people! Especially when plumbing repairs are sooo costly -- and time consuming! Who can wait even a day to use their dishwasher?! Not me!
