I have the SHY66C model, which I rarely use because I live alone and eat out a lot. I returned from a trip recently and opened the dishwasher to load it; the door seemed much more loose than I remember. In other words, If I open the door and let it go, it will drop open very quickly (after the first couple of inches.) I swear the door used to open more gently. All I can figure are one of two things: (a) my housesitter did something to break a spring or latch that keeps the door from crashing open or (b) I just never paid that much attention to how the door opens before.

Can anyone who has this model (or probably any Bosch dishwasher) tell me if their door opens slowly? If I were to stand in front of this and let go of the door after it is open the first couple of inches, I'm going to get a nice bruise on my knee or leg. Not to mention that this seems like unnecessary stress on the door. Do you know if there's a latch or spring inside the dishwasher that keeps the door from crashing open?

Thanks.

Hi,

SHY66C

That is part of a full model#.

If I open the door and let it go, it will drop open very quickly (after the first couple of inches.) I swear the door used to open more gently.

Broken spring or broken spring cable is possible.

jeff.

Thanks. I went to appliance store today to "test" other Bosch doors and it confirmed my suspicion that something is wrong. I was guessing a spring or latch of some kind. Saleswoman at store thought it might "just need an adjustment." Anyway, I have names of a couple of repair guys--have given up on being a "do-it-yourselfer."
