Hi,

I have a 1993 AmanaRadiant Self-Cleaning Range/Oven. The model number is AR2T662. The left door hinge rivet is broken. I read an earlier post on how to replace this hinge, but the directions didn't seem to apply to my range.

I took off the oven door and bottom storage drawer. There is one screw near bottom of the hinge on the outside. I removed that one. It did loosen the bottom of the hinge. However, the top of the hinge didn't budge. There is obviously another screw holding the top of the door hinge on the inside. There seems to be no easy way to get to that screw. You can't even see it by looking up from the area the drawer slides in. I undid the several screws on the unit's side panel. I wondered if I could get to the hinge screw from the leftside. The panel didn't even budge, and I wonder if screws on the "bottom" of the unit need to be removed.

So...at this point I am perplexed and welcome any help you can give me.

Thanks!

Mark

Hi,

I remember changing some of these oven door hinges when i was a Montgomery Ward Tech. but as time goes on, and i rarely see the Amana Ranges anymore, I believe i changed them by taking off the side panels, but can't be sure.

This Link will help you more, they have good appliance repair support.

Thanks, Jake. I solved the problem. There was one more screw on the outside. It was high above the hinge, and I must have thought it was for something else. In my mind I thought I had tried it, but I'm now sure I didn't. It was on "very" tight. Once that screw was undone, the whole hinge slipped out the front as indicated by a previous poster.

I did go to that link you gave me. I was able to look up the part number, and they sell the hinge for 1/3 the price I was quoted locally. So...I will check around today and possibly order it online.

Thanks again!

Hi again,

The part was even cheaper through the company, http://www.amana.com. I can have the left and right hinge kitsshipped (parts and all)for a grand total of $29.98. I doubt that I can get them cheaper from a local dealer, but we will see. One dealer wanted $45.00 for one hinge plus tax. What a rip off.

Thanks!

Hi,

Now I'm onto another problem with the same Amana stove. When I set the digital control to self-clean theoven and turn my dial to 3 hours 30 minutes, it does not lock the door. The word "door" appears and it beeps. The digital panel is clearly not making a connection with the door itself. What part do I replace and how do I remove it? On the Amana website, I see a part listed for sensor, erc. I will attach a link to what I am looking at on the Amana site.

Thanks!

That link you posted is coming up as a blank page on both of my browsers.

Here is a link to some fault codes that may help you.

Since i haven't worked on a amana in a long time, my memory has faded about most of the inner workings, until i see one again in real life.

Maybe Jeff, Dan, Mac, or John can help if they have run into more amana's recently.

That is likely indicating at the door is not locked (or at least the control can't tell it is).

That could be caused by a mechanical problem in the latch mechanism, a problem in any switches which might be mounted on that latch or possibly a door activated switch depending on how your model was design. There is even a possibility that just a wire has burned off but the range would actually have to be checked out to determine which is the cause in your case.

You can read a bit about the various type of door locking mechanisms which might be employed at the following link (although it isn't about your particular problem).

Thanks, Guys, for your replies. Because of the sound my oven door makes when it is locked by the self-cleaning activation, I believe I have a solenoid-driven locking system. It is not heat activated, because it locks immediately. I also do not hear the whine of a motor...so I believe it is a solenoid system. The question is...where is the solenoid located? The link mentioned it could be in the rear of the stove, which would be much easier to get to. If it is in the front, the stove top would need to be removed. I have a smooth top glass stove. Is it difficult to remove these?

Amana did respond to my queries and told me I could purchase a repair manual. I think that is the way to go. Besides showing me where stuffis located, I might even be given some guidance on how to remove the various parts.

Thanks again for all of your help!

I'm afraid I don't know where it is located on your model. Sorry.

Amana told me I could purchase a repair manual.
It might be a good investment if you plan on servicing the range yourself.
