View Full Version : Frigidaire Ice/water loss of pressure

I have a Frigidaire with icemaker/water dispenser (side by side). The problem is that the water has begun to lose its pressure if not used over a couple of hours. It may take up to 10 sec. to get water after activating the switch. Additionally, the ice maker will not make more than a tray of ice.
If used repeatedly there is no problem, it is only after a period of time that the water seems to lose it's prime? Could this be a solenoid problem?

Hi,
Yes, but check the water pressure to the refrigerator water valve connection first, just dis-connect the water line in the back of the refrigerator, and get a container and put the water line in the container.
Then check the pressure of it running into the container, if its a fast stream, then its possible the water valve is bad, if its a slow stream, then its a pressure problem in that water line.

I checked the water pressure at the source and it appears fine. This system has a single solenoid at the source which routes through the water filter to a dual - one to the icemaker, the other to the water dispenser. I disconnected the line to the dual and activated the water dispenser - water flows normally. I reconnected the water and checked the water at the door - normal. I reversed the power from the ice maker to the water solenoid, activated the water dispenser and the ice maker line flowed normally.
I removed the water filter, replaced the housing (filled with water), and again everything operated normally. This morning I checked and it appears as if only a couple of trays of ice were made and there was at least a 4-5 second delay in getting water through the dispenser.
Somehow the water is not staying at the valve point but moving back through the lines over time. When you activate the water it takes a while to work up back through the lines. The icemaker won't fill it since that valve only remains open a few seconds. Incidentally, I checked and it's not frozen either.
I can't figure it out???
Any ideas?

It almost sounds like you have a pinhole leak in the plastic water line tubing, thats the only thing i can think of that iscausing this issue.

That is exactly how I would describe the problem - however there is absolutely no water anywhere inside, underneath, or in any panels that I can find, and I've followed all of the lines.
I would go so far to state that the leak should be between the first entry point solenoid and the dual solenoid since both water and icemaker are affected.
I'm completely lost here.

Yea, its very odd, But i do remember replacing the water valves on the Frigidaire side by sides alot in the in the late 90's through the early 2000's.
You may have to call a appliance tech. to run tests on the water valves.

thanks, I was hoping to handle it as a do-it-yourself but it might just be coming to that.

I had the exact same problem about a year ago. Unfortunately I don't remember what the issue was exactly. I ate half the job over this.
I changed out the water tank and replaced it for the conversion kit(wrapped tubing: The original tanks suck. They crack, and have a pressure issues.), the water valves, the filter housing. After replacing all this it finally worked. This service call was 30 miles out of town, and took me 2 callbacks. It was a nightmare. Sorry I can't remember exactly which part was at fault. My advice.... Replace it all the first time then get the hell out!
