it agitates while it spins causeing it not to get to proper speed, it sounds like splines crunching, when I remove the agitator it runs fine and gets up to speed, so it seems the agitator is holding it back, the splines on it look fine but the lower dog type things on the lower part of the agitator seem worn, I do not think it is suppose to agitate when spinning right?, any ideas what is wrong. thanks..

Hi bil,

Usually when a washer agitates while it spins means only 1 thing, The Transmission(Gearcase) is shot.

You should have a 5 yr. warranty on that part,:) you would only have to pay the labor cost.

thanks jake, I appreciate you taking the time to let me know, I kinda figured it wasn't good, think we had the thing longer than 5 yrs. but will check, got laid off few weeks ago I knew something was going to go bad, been looking at them new front loaders, maybe replace with one of those, I got the thing ripped apart and I think if I get another top loader I will go with a belt drive, seems to me that would be a better way to go, thanks again Jake and have a decent day,

Sorry to hear you got laid off, I worked at Montgomery Wards for 11 years as a appliance tech, and all 30,000 got laid off when they went bankrupt in 2001, I know how you feel. Hope you find another job soon!

thanks again jake, I did what I said I would not do, I grabbed a used kenmore 70 series, (don't know the difference from the 80 series), anyway just to hold me over a couple of months until I save up for that bosh front loader, I am just at the end of redoing my kitchen,( ceramic tile, cabinets, counter top, lights,), so needed a quick fix for the washer, ( kitchen is sucking my funds up), starting to get ichy to go to work, I am a marine tech so in a couple months things will pick up, thanks much for all your help, I learned allot about a washer in the last few days!, have a great day!! :D:cool::D
