My parents stayed in a guest bedroom while we were out of town and awoke to 5 inches of water in my kitchen when the ice maker hose burst from its connection on my 1 and 1/2 year old Frigidaire side by side model FRS26HF7BB2. The unit came from a Lowes and they installed it with a plastic hose rather than a copper hose. My question for the BLOG is ..... do you think I have a leg to stand on for seeking damages from Lowes or Frigidaire to cover the $2600 deductible I will incur in the overall $7500 in damages that occurred to my house?

Informed opinion is that it may be worth a try with Lowes, but probably little chance of success after a year and a half. My gut feeling is that a letter to Lowes corporate office may get you some kind of "gesture of goodwill" payment in the interests of customer relations, but little else. At the end of the day, you've chosen to accept a higher deductible (presumably) in return for a lower premium, and this is the risk you run.
