I have a model# FRS26ZNDH3 side by side manufactured in March 2000.

The refrigerator was hot while the freezer stayed cold. I removed the rear panel in the freezer and found the evaporator covered in frost. I replaced the defrost timer and that did not fix the problem. I bypassed the thermostat and put it in defrost mode with the timer and it still will not defrost.

Is there anything other than the defrost heater that could be my problem?

If it is the heater can I do that myself? It does not look like an easy install.

Thank you.

FRS26ZNHD3 is the closest model# i found, I think you just got the DH crossed.

Did you bypass the defrost thermostat, or the operating thermostat?

I would Ohm out the heater to check continuity, its that checks good, then bypass the defrost thermostat that sits on the evaporator coil, then put the timer in defrost, the heater should come on.

If the heater does not come on, i would start checking voltage readings, and looking for a loose connection.

FRS26ZNHD3 is the correct model number. I bypassed the defrost thermostat that sits on the evaporator coil. Now I need to know what color wire goes to the red and which goes to the white when I reinstall that. I failed to mark them.

I checked the heater coil with an ohm meter and the needle did not even move. That's the sign that it is my problem, right? The problem is that I do not see how to get it in and out of there.

Thank you.
