No water coming in
Brand:
Bosch
Age:
1-5 years
I have a Bosch Exxcel dishwasher. I can't find a plate with the product number. Not on the door, inside nor the inside, nor the back. It's not even on the manual. Based on photos found on the net, it MIGHT be an SMS65E12GB or an SMS53E22GB.
When I switch it on, it makes a buzzing noise, but no water comes in. I think the noise is normal (it's hard to tell, because it's usually accompanied by the scooshing of water!) The last time the washer was used, the machine didn't drain down fully.
The unit has electricity, good water flow, inlet filters are all clear. I've had the cover off the pump in the base of the unit and that's all moving freely.
Now, I'm stuck for options. Everywhere I turn, people say "Oooh, Bosch dishwashers are a nightmare to work on." From other stuff I've read, there might be a problem with either the inlet valve; I have no idea how I would test this. It also may be the float switch, but I can't even find that!!
Any clues, or disassembly guides would be greatly appreciated. I'm an engineer, so I'm familiar with a screwdriver, but my speciality is jet aircraft fuel pumps!!
Thanks.

Hi,
I have a Bosch Exxcel dishwasher. I can't find a plate with the product number. Not on the door, inside nor the inside, nor the back.
Try on the side of the door and behind the lower access panals.
From other stuff I've read, there might be a problem with either the inlet valve; I have no idea how I would test this. It also may be the float switch, but I can't even find that!!
Float is normally behind the fill valve, often have to pull out the unit and remove side panal to access.
Dishwashers, how to access, how to check for leaks, washing draining complaints, how to install, Kenmore Whirlpool Inglis Maytag D&M GE poor washing, not filling with water repair information, Door springs
Bosch dishwasher helps

Thanks for getting back to me. The trick was in finding the correct combination of black plastic widgets to press to get the lid off. Once the lid was off, two screws in each side got the sides off. the float switch is now exposed. I'm pretty sure it's OKay. It clicks when I lift it. If I switch the machine on, I can hear a noise when I lift the switch and it sounds like the extraction pump.
I see nothing obviously a problem, except there's a big transparent plastic thing on the side with lots of flow paths. It looks like it has a pretty gungey mess up at the top of one of the "paths." I'm too chicken to detach it.
Next stop: inlet solenoid. (Notice how I leave the mains voltage electrics until last?!!)
Even with the panels off I can't find the damn model number of the machine!!

I have the clear plastic thingy with the scunge removed and descunged. Doesn't seem to have been a problem. The electrical contacts for the inlet valve are waaaaay in behind a whole mess of pipes. I believe it possible to remove the back plate surrounding the valve, but (as with the lid) it's a matter of figuring out which magic parts to press. I know from experience that pressing the wrong parts will cause the whole thing to shatter into a million pieces and a replacement with cost more than a new machine.

...the inlet valve shows an impedance on the meter. The damn fuse is gone in the AC circuit of my multimeter, so wasn't able to get a VAC. I just realised - I should probably disconnect the solenoid to measure the coil resistance. D'uh.

Power to the fill valve and the water feed comming in is good but no filling is likely new fill valve time. Have seen some broken/burnt wires in the door, esp where the door bends to ope nand close.

Would I expect mains AC volts to the fill valve? (I'm in UK, so 240VAC.) Is there any possibility it's a 12V DC thing? The valve has a resistance for 3.6 ohm, so I guess the solenoid part is OKay.

Found the model number engraved in the door. Bosch Exxcel SGS46E22GB/01. I'm seeing no mains voltage at the inlet valve.

I doubt they have used DC volts since it is so unreliable, so, i'd check for 220-240 volts AC.
