Dead Dishwasher Fix
Brand:
Bosch
Age:
1-5 years
Woke up to a dishwasher that was completely dead and had 1/8 inch water at the bottom floor inside the cabin of the washer.
Here is what I did to fix it...
1. Using a siphoning hand pump that you can purchase at AutoZone, or any other auto parts stores; I removed the filters from the floor of the inside cabin of the D/W and siphoned the standing water out.
2. Next, I removed the front kickplate, and then the protective cover of the electrical wire connectors found on the far right-hand side of the D/W.
3. Using a test meter, I checked to see if there was 120VAC to the wire connections which would confirm that there were no broken wires to this point from my panal box, and that th breaker was not popped to the off position. So now I know that the D/W has a supply of power to it's termal block where the wires come from the panal box and connect to the D/W. But still, the D/W display panal would not light up even though I would actuate the On-OFF Switch with the door in the open position.
4. Next, I pulled the D/W out from under the cabinet where it was mounted and located the float-switch on the lower-left-hand side of the D/W as you are facing the front of the unit. I first made sure that the linkage to the float-switch was not stuck in the UP Position my working it UP and Down with my fingers. Next, I unplugged the terminal block connector that is plugged into the float-switch. I then cycled the On-Off Power button to the ON position, and the display panel lit up for the first time since the beginning of this problem.
5. I then plugged the terminal block connector back into the float-switch and confirmed that the display was still lit.
6. Next, I cleared the wash cycle by pressing and holding down the "Regular Wash" and "Rinse and Hold" buttons simutaniously while cycling the Power Button to the ON position. This Cleared the previous wash cycle.
7. Next, I selected "Rinse and Hold" which is an 11 minute cycle, the shortest cycle that the dishwasher has, and let the machine run through the complete cycle making sure that the water was being pumped into the D/W and then back out again during the cycle. I confirmed that the water was being pumped in by listening and hearing the water running into the machine, and then confirmed by listening, to hear that the water was being pumped back out of the machine at the end of the cycle.
8. Once the machine ran a successful Rinse and Hold cycle, I loaded it with dirty dishes, selected a nomal wash cycle, and let it run. The machine ran perfectly as normal.
To be able to tell you what caused the whole problem in the first place is still a mystery in my mind, but I hope if someone out there runs into the same problem with this model or a similar model, this little fix will get you up and running without the need for costly repair bills.
Good luck!
