Default Bosch SHU66

All:

I have a SHU66 series Bosch dishwasher that leaves the soap caked in the bottom of the dispenser.

Called the repair guy who had little clue and told me to run dishwasher cleaner through it (though the spray and all looked fine to him) and probably replace the dispenser.

Ordered the dispenser online but now it appears I have to take the inside front door panel off to get at this part to make the swap.

Is this what I must do? Take the door apart to fix this? I just wanted to check before I started reducing this to a stainless steel heap.

Thanks!

Dan

Default Replaced the dispenser

For those who might come upon this in perpetuity...

These are my experiences and I may not have done it correctly.

Pulling the door down reveals 6 screws (3 per side) and something like 4 screws across the top by the control panel. There are 4 additional heavier screws that connect the door assembly to the hinges.

You want to remove the 3 screws on the side and NOT the ones that tie into the hinges. The hinge screws are removed horizontally to the ground with the door open and the correct screws to remove require a vertical orientation of the screwdriver.

Once the screws are removed, the outer panel should slide down and you can pull it out with some slight flexing. As you pull it out, note that there are tabs across the top of this panel and that it sets up into and under the control panel area. There are 2 plastic spacers down by the hinges that you should take note of in case they fall off in the process.

Setting that aside, there is a large wiring harness held in place by a plastic clip. Note how the plastic clip is attached to the back of the detergent dispenser. My unit had some thin plastic piece that draped behind the wiring harness, not how that hooks into the plastic clip supporting the wiring harness.

You'll note there are no screws holding in the detergent dispenser and only a series of metal tabs being held into tabs on the back of the detergent dispenser with friction.

It might be a good idea to shut off the power to the unit. I didn't. Probably should have.

Remove the red and yellow wires from their boards and note which goes where and how they attach to the board. Loosen carefully the metal tabs from the teeth of the tabs on the back of the dispenser. Once that is done you have to essentially brute force the dispenser out of the unit. We did this by latching the dishwasher door and slowly pushing down and out on the bottom of the dispenser. It eventually gave and we were able to pull the unit out.

There must be some trick to this next part that I didn't know about. Pushing the new dispenser back in the hole requires more force than one really wants to put on that thin of metal to get the tabs on the door to rejoin with the teeth in the tabs on the dispenser. We focused on the top teeth and getting those in first. Then we were able to grab the bottom of the dispenser and pull up (with the door latched) to get the bottom ones in place.

Again, there must be some trick to taking this out and putting it back in because it just seems crazy the amount of force it takes to get the thing out and then to get it back in.

Connect the red and yellow wires back up. Then replace the plastic wiring harness supporter and deal with that piece of plastic.

Putting the front skin back on requires you to get those tabs into some slots up under the control panel. It's a bit tricky as well.

I ran a test run and it no longer caked up the detergent in the dispenser.
