Our 12-year old GE dishwasher is making strange noises and am getting ready to replace. We have laminate + pad installed over vinyl and they managed to squeeze the laminate under the front legs of the dishwasher (legs raised all the way up) so not to 'pin' the dishwasher in. This leaves a max height of 33.5 inches for the new dishwasher.
Local appliance shop says I'm limited to Maytag (ie. Quiet Series 300). I've read a lot of poor reviews for this model. Any other recommendations for a good, medium priced dishwasher that has a 33.5 height? Thanks much.
Thanks for the quick reply Jake. I'm glad Maytag is improving - lots of unhappy customers out there, but that's probably the case for all brands. I've been scouring the web sites for a dishwasher with the 33.5 inch min height, but haven't found any other than the Maytag. I might be able to route out some of the oak trim piece and go up to maybe 34 inches, but would prefer not to. Great site - been lurking for a while, finally joined. JR.
The 12-year old GE dishwasher that I was considering replacing was making a buzzing/rattling noise as it warms up. Once the water starts moving around, it sounds fine and still cleans the dishes OK. I took off the lower panel and it appears that the noise was coming from the black thing.
I tightened the small bolt to the frame - no more noise. I figure I'm on borrowed time with the GE, but I may have delayed the decision for a while. Is 12 years about the expected life for a mid-range dishwasher that run 3-4 times/week? Thanks much, JR.
Hey Jake. Finally got around to replacing the old GE dishwasher. I took the advice of the appliance shop guys and went with the Maytag (MDB5601AWW) due to the 33.5 inch height limitation. It went in just fine - did not have to remove any of the wood trim. Am posting back in case any one has the same 33.5 height limit.
