Red face Best Dishwasher?

I hope this is the correct area of the forums to ask this.

What, in your opinion, is the best dishwasher out there as far as doing a good job and being a product that will last? I'd rather pay a little more for something that will provide many years of reliable consistent service than have something fail because it is made of substandard parts.

OK, I can tell you but it won't do you any good...I married her.
Now that was funny!

Seriously, when it comes to dishwashers, I haven't found one brand that is better than another. It all depends on the features you want. Bosch is suppose to be one of the better brands but it's pricey and I've had service calls on them. There are some real high end models out there, some use very little water and one uses ultrasonic sound to clean. But I don't see too many of those. Not because they don't break, I just think there is not that many out there. For the money, I like Whirlpool and Frigidaire. And other than GE, Whirlpool owns everybody else now so there's a good chance no matter what you get it will be a Whirlpool. I would say pick the features you want and then shop for the best price.

Thanks for the reply!

I've found that the Whirlpools seem to be the best for the $$. When I need one I'll probably look at them.

I was kind of surprised to see how poorly some of the higher end ones did. Wasn't Maytag really good years ago? Now, they don't even seem to rank.

Maytag had a problem with some models catching on fire. That along with the problems they had with the Neptune Washers and the class action suit against them was more than they could handel I guess. Whirlpool purchased the Maytag Corp. about a year ago. I'm starting to see appliances with the Maytag name but are Whirlpool designs. If you go back far enough you'll find that Maytag purchased, Amana, Magic Chef, Tappan, Admiral, and a bunch of others. So now Whirlpool owns just about everything except GE and Frigidaire. And anything that says Kenmore can be anyone of those. I can't really give you an honest assessment of some of the newer brands like LG an Samsung or the high end models because I haven't seen enough of them to have an opinion either way. Whirlpool dishwashers are reliable and when they do have a problem the parts are reasonably priced and their repairs are fairly simple to do.
