Default Air Gap Overflows at end of cycles

Visited a moblie home today (about 10-12 yrs old); dishwasher appeared to function normally. However, at end of each cycly when dishwasher emptied, I noticed an overflow of water through the Air Gap on top the kitchen sink. I suspect this is not a critical item, probably just insufficient venting at the kitchen sink waste line (most mobile homes have those short vent tops that are installed inside the kitchen sink cupboard. Is this a serious issue? Is my assumption to cause wrong?

Hi,

My manufactured home is a 1997, and it doesn't have a air gap, but i have seen them in many older ones like your talking about, Usually something gets clogged in the air gap, you can try to clean it out, the top cover should just pull off.
