Red face Warning - Do not be this stupid

I picked up and installed a used d/w in my home. To complete the install I had to convert my old direct wired set up to a regular plug. I noticed there was a nice convenient outlet under the sink. Thinking this would be easy, I installed the d/w plugged it in, turned it on... nothing. After two frustrating days of diagnosis: first testing the d/w (all the way to the circuit board) and power wiring with a ohm meter, everything checked out. So, I determined it was a 'no power at the plug' issue. Ah Ha! Nothing worked in that outlet. But how could this be, the garbage disposal (plugged into the same outlet) worked fine (hmmmm). After another couple of hours of power diagnostics, I realized the garbage disposal worked because I TURNED THE SWITCH ON!!! The outlet was powered with a wall switch and I kept testing the outlet power using the garbage disposal instead of a meter, but never tried running the d/w with the disposal on. DUH.

Luckily nothing was damaged in my vain intensive and invasive diagnostics...except my broken pride and bruised ego.

Be warned...
