Default OK to unplug turbidity sensor on Maytag MDB9150?? Makes keypad function again!

I have a Maytag MDB9150 dishwasher, 5.5 yrs old. Last night it wouldn't start when I pushed "Light wash" as usual. However, "Autoclean" worked fine. I found the following in http://www.applianceaid.com/electronicmaydw.html

- If the "Clean & Option" keypads appear not to be working, but the "Auto clean" keypad does, disconnect the wiring at the turbidity sensor. If a cycle and any option can now be entered, replace the turbidity sensor.

I unplugged the sensor and like magic "Light wash" worked again. I plan to run without replacing the $60 sensor since I don't use any cycles that use that function. Anyone know if that might cause problems? Thanks!!

Its not a good idea to run it without your turbidity sensor. I would just order a new one to be on the safe side.
