Thread: Norge Dryer Motor/Thermostat wiring question

Now since your in Canada I don't know if your wiring to the original motor is different than here in the USA. I'd have to look at the wiring diagram to your original motor and compare it to the instruction sheet that comes with the replacement motor to tell you what wires go where.

Hi Jake,

The motor you indicated is precisely what I have:


And here is the old motor:


As I mentioned, the mysterious red/white stripped wire was attached to the old motor on a tab right beside a red (heater) wire on tab 3:

A continuity meter shows that those two tabs are connected (in fact, one can see they are are the same piece of metal).

The other end of the red/white striped wire terminates at the cycling thermostat, shown here:


I'm just not sure where to connect the motor-end of this red/white striped wire, or if I should join it to the red wire directly. The original wiring diagram for the system is here:

Ok Richard I read it, on the 2nd page for the wiring it lists the 5 terminals from the old motor to where they would go on the new motor.

I don't seem to follow what your having trouble with.

The problem is that there were six wires attached to the old motor; two red, one white, one purple, one orange and one red/white striped. As you noted, the instructions only refer to five (and in particular, the first five in the aforementioned list). That last wire is not mentioned. So I was trying to determine what it was based on it terminating at one of the four tabs on the thermostat, as shown in one of the photos I posted.

Ok, then thats a problem I don't know about, none here in the states I ever remember them having 6 wires, so I'm stumped as well.

You may need to go to a appliance repair shop in your area and ask them about this.

I'm not an electrical specialist, but I think that looking at the red/white wire in the photo of the cycling thermostat (across from the blue wire) and looking at the wiring diagram, I'm going to conclude that the other end of the red/white wire connects to where the red wire that was attached to terminal 3 on the old motor. Therefore, it needs to be attached to terminal 2 on the new motor. At this point, I can't see any other possibility.
